Restarting on lap 9 of 125 with Justin Allgaier (7) and Josh Berry (8) on the front row.
Justin Allgaier (7) gets the lead after a door-to-door battle for the lead on the restart.
Caution on lap 10 of 125 for a wreck involving John Hunter ‘JHN’ Nemechek (20), Carson Hocevar (77), Sammy Smith (18), Mason Maggio (08), and Ty Gibbs (19). Ty Gibbs (19) went around in the middle of the field with help from the 20 who was pushed by the 18.
The 19 of Ty Gibbs and 20 of JHN are knocking into each other under caution. Sammy Smith (18) is out and headed to the infield care center. The Joe Gibbs Racing teammates are unhappy with each other. JHN probably doesn’t realize JGR teammate Sammy Smith (2) rammed Nemechek into the back of Ty Gibbs, turning the 19 in front of the field and causing the wreck. Joe Gibbs’ grandson (19) probably thinks JHN (20) was taking liberties.
Restarting on lap 16 of 125.
Justin Allgaier (7) gets the early lead again over teammate Josh Berry (8).
Caution on lap 18 of 125 for Mason Maggio (08) slamming the wall. Maggio simply didn’t turn and hit the outside wall at full speed with the right front corner.
Sammy Smith is working hard to avoid responsibility for the incident. He says maybe JHN was being a little aggressive on Ty. He says
JHN got tight loose”. Smith said he turned left to avoid Ty Gibbs (he believed he was at Gibbs’s door) and he guesses the 77 was there. What the video replay shows is Gibbs driving forward. JHN gets up on his rear and backs off. Smith runs into the back of JHN sending him into the back of Gibbs turning Gibbs in front of the field, at which point Smith tried to drive below JHN and running into the 77 of Carson Hocevar and getting clipped by Mason Maggio (08) who was trying to by-pass the issue.
Front row is Allgaier (7) and Cole Custer (00) due to the choose. They restart on lap 23 of 125. Josh Berry (8) and Chandler Smith (16) chose to line up behind Allgaier.
Allgaier gets the lead after the restart pushes.
Justin Allgaier wins stage one 2.97 seconds ahead of teammate Josh Berry (8).
Restarting on lap 36 of 125 with Ty Gibbs (19) and Sheldon Creed (2) on the front row as some stayed out and some pitted.
Ty ‘LittleJoe’ Gibbs (19) gets the early lead.
Caution on lap 38 of 125 for Connor Mosack (24) tagging the wall.
Ty Gibbs (19) and Riley Herbst (98) restarting on the front row on lap 42 of 125.
Gibbs (19) gets the early lead.
JHN (20) wins the stage. Justin Allgaier (7) finishes the stage second 1.396 seconds behind JHN.
NBCSports showed a large blob of rain on the radar heading toward the speedway.
MRN reports Justin Allgaier (7) is almost the last car to leave pit road calling the stop disastrous.
Ty Gibbs (19) spun Justin Allgaier (7) coming into the pits according to NASCAR digital.
Restarting on lap 66 of 125 with JHN on the front row. Allgaier restarts in 30th.
On lap 73 of 125 Allgaier (7) moved forward 20 positions to tenth.
On lap 96 of 125 green flag pit stops are underway.
MRN reports Justin Allgaier (7) will be penalized for a crew member over the wall too soon.
MRN’s Jeff Striegle reports Allgaier was speeding on pit road; as well as a loose wheel for Cole Custer (00).
NASCAR digital reports Allgaier penalized for too many men over the wall.
Austin Hill (21) has a transmission issue and is slow leaving pit road.
This race has degenerated into…
Caution on lap 112 of 125 for Patrick Emerling (35) tackling the wall.
I was just about to say this race has degenerated into a nothing event. Let’s hear it for a surprise caution. The only problem is that MRN reports the teams don’t have any more sticker tires. New tires could make things interesting.
Restarting with JHN (20) and on the front row.
Allgaier (7) pits for 17-lap tires from sixteenth position.
Cole Custer (00) pits for tires after feeling a vibration. When it got better, but still didn’t feel right they thought it might be a splitter hitting the ground. They checked quickly while he was on pit road.
Restarting on lap 118 of 125 with John Hunter ‘JHN’ Nemechek (20) and Ty Gibbs (19) on the front row followed by Josh Berry (8), Riley Herbst (98), and Brandon Jones (9).
JHN (20) gets the good push from Josh Berry (8) to the lead. Berry (8) follows him into second position.
JHN easily wins 1.495 seconds ahead of pole-sitter Josh Berry (8). Justin Allgaier (7) finished 14th.
MRN reports Austin Hill and Chandler Smith got together on the final lap. Smith hit the wall. Smith went over to chat with Hill.
Justin Allgaier was sitting on the wall by himself and Josh Williams walked over and sat with him.
MRN’s Steve Post reports he’s unable to get a word with Ty Gibbs hearing that ‘LittleJoe’ has already left the area. MRN’s Jeff Striegle said he’s hearing the same. Striegle mentions that
JHN apologizes for getting into Ty and says he put Ty in a bad aero spot and then he couldn’t check up and got into him.
That race was okay. It’s the first Xfinity series race of the season that I can really say that about. It wasn’t great, but was decent. NASCAR still needs to figure out something to reduce the leader running away from the field at this track – but the number of cautions ameliorated that overall.
