Pole: Sheldon Creed (2)
Outside pole: Cole Custer (00)
Stages: 25-25-25
Sheldon Creed (2) wins stage one.
Cole Custer (00) wins stage two after John Hunter Nemechek (20) punted leader Sheldon Creed (2).
“That was kind of a snoozer for a while there, then it got exciting at the end.” Trevor Bayne in the FS1 booth at the end of stage two.
Caution on lap 66 of 75 for Riley Herbst (98) blowing up. Justin Allgaier (7) leading.
Caution on lap 72 of 75 for debris. Justin Allgaier (7) leading. There are large pieces of something on the track – maybe a sign taken out by the 24 of . The guys in the booth – Adam Alexander, Trevor Bayne, and Jamie McMurray aren’t bothering to talk about the caution or the cause of the caution.
Restarting in overtime.
Track personnel were trying to replace the sign for the restart zone, but it wouldn’t stand up, so they finally gave up and put it in the bed of a pickup truck.
Parker Kligerman (48) took them three-wide in the turn taking himself, Justin Allgaier and Sheldon Creed (2) out of the lead. Cole Custer (00) drove through to the lead.
Cole Custer (00) holds off Justin Allgaier (7).
JR Motorsports teammates Justin Allgaier (7), Sam Mayer (1), and Josh Berry (8) finish second, third, and fourth. Mayer punted Sheldon Creed (2) to take third.
Boring race overall. Bad luck for Justin Allgaier at the end. The call in the booth was entertaining at times, but frequently they were chatting with each other instead of calling the on-track action. Trevor Bayne is very knowledgeable and it shows, but he seemed to have no training, nor experience in calling a live event. We, as viewers, benefit from someone in the booth calling the on-track action we can’t see, or don’t understand because we don’t have the audio from NASCAR. That element was missing today. The entertainment level was much higher than usual while focusing on racing. Unlike the Cup booth there was no clown. The descriptions and insight into what was occurring on track was lively and enlightening. The three of them all seemed to equally have opportunities to talk. Occasionally McMurray would get long-winded, but generally no one totally dominated every conversation. No one seemed intent on using all the oxygen in the booth like Clint Bowyer does in the Cup
booth.
