It’s a warm, partly cloudy day in the Atlanta metro area today. We’d planned to see if we could find tickets for the race today – until we discovered that the truck race was a night race instead of the afternoon race. The weather folks are predicting rain for this evening and all day tomorrow, through Monday morning. So, Bunny and I decided the chances of our getting to see a good Truck race were not so great and she headed to work and I’m comfortably watching the Junior Cup race on television. I’m wishing I was at the track – just because I miss going to the track – but the return isn’t worth the cost today.
Traditionally the truck race has been the best race of the weekend in Atlanta since I’ve been attending the races, so we were both looking forward to it. Typically the Xfinity race is just as boring as the Cup race making it less of a draw for us. Without a guarantee of seeing the truck race the effort involved didn’t seem worth it.
Cole Custer wadded it up on lap.
Restarting on lap 18 of 163.
Looks like an inner liner – probably from Michael Anneet’s car has gone rolling across the track on lap 36 of 163.
On lap 36 looks like everybody is coming in for pit stops, four laps before the end of the stage. It’s funny, NASCAR wants the race to reset at the stage end and the teams, of course, decided its better to stop at other times. Such an odd game between the two sides.
Stage is over. Cup driver won the stage.
I guess though the stages just allow NASCAR to see commercial spots more easily.
The field in under caution on lap 45 of 163. Not sure if its still the stage caution. I thought they’d gotten restarted, but now I’m not sure.
Let’s turn on the radio and find out what’s going on with the race.
PRN is saying the schedule has changed for tomorrow in an attempt to get the race in before the bad weather. Sounds like it may be a race to halfway or the end of stage two – unless the forecast has changed dramatically and they way the clouds are here, I’m doubting there’s been a big change.
Restarting on lap 47 of 163.
If the forecasters have a better forecast we might try our luck at the track tomorrow.
Brandon Jones has a flat right front tire on lap 55 of 163 and hits the pits without incident.
Stage 2 ends with a Cup driver leading.
Restarting on lap 89 of 163.
Tyler Reddick has a right rear flat with 25 laps to go. He gets to the pits without incident.
Harvick won. He completely and totally ran his own race without any real competition. That’s an example of why we weren’t interested in this race. The Xfinity series racing has gotten progressively more boring over the years, because it tends to be so thoroughly dominated by Cup guys as to be no contest and not remotely interesting.
Christopher Bell is saying it was a good points day. Wow. Second race of his rookie season and he’s concerned with points. Okay. That says something about what he values.
Joey ‘Squinty-Douchey’ Logano says he could tell KHarv was playing with him most of the race. Pitiful.
