Sam Hornish and Eliott Sadler leads the field to green. Andy Lally is in the field.
Justin Allgaier spins in an incident with Matt Tifft.
Caution is out for fluid laid down by Cole Custer on lap 2.
Cole was out in a backup car. There’s a possibility ‘Dewy Alligator’ and Tifft ran through the fluid causing their issues. Looks like Cole is having rear gear issues.
The MRN guys are saying yesterday’s practices were rained out yesterday, so a lot of the competition have never actually been on this course.
The stages for this race 20-20-35.
Morgan Shephard has virtually stopped on the track. Might have been an electrical issue. He’s back up to speed.
Regan Smith has spun into a sand trap on lap 15 of 75.
Caution on lap 16 of 75 for Matt Bell hitting the tire barrier. He’s in Mario Gosselin’s car.
Red flag is out on lap 16 of 75. Caution is now out.
Elliott goes around into the sandtrap just after the restart.
Blake Koch gets the stage win.
Sideways Sam wins stage two.
Daniel Hemric leads the field to green with 31 to go.
The 78 of Steven Young is sitting in a sand trap with 28 to go. He’s spinning his wheels unable to get out. Caution is out.
The 9 of William Byron also went for a spin with the assistance of Ryan Reed. If RR were to win today it would tie Jack Roush and JGR in Xfinity series wins. I’d like to see Jack get that, but I can’t bring myself to cheer for Ryan Reed to win. I don’t like that kid at all. He’s a menace as a driver.
Sam Hornish has moved from Charlotte back to Defiance, Ohio. That is such a cool name.
Restarting with 24 laps to go and with Sam Hornish in the lead.
Pile up including the 23 (Spencer Gallagher), 11 (Blake Koch), 51 (Jeremy Clements), and 16 (Ryan Reed) bringing our the caution.
Restarting with 18 laps to go.
The 42 of Justin Marks spun around as they went three wide into a turn and he ended up in the grass and mud then he got slammed by the 16 of Ryan Reed.
Restarting with 14 laps to go.
Dewy
The 20 of James Davison just wandered through the grass.
The 4 of Ross Chastain is in the grass and drives out of a sand trap.
Caution with 11 laps to go for the 98 of Casey Mears sitting in the grass. Lots of smoke out of the back-end of his car before he came to a stop.
Brennan Poole (48) just knocked into the side of Elliott Sadler (1) during the caution.
Sideways Sam is out front and will restart alongside Brendan ‘Uncle Brenny’ Gaughan.
I’m digging Justin ‘Dewy Alligator’ Allgaier’s paint scheme. Flames. Nice.
This is his third of five races in 2017 for Penske. The first two in Iowa.
Restarting with 8 to go.
Big wreck including the 24, 9, and we’re still green. Caution is now out. William Byron apparently went around and collected Dylan Lupton, JJ Yeley, Justin Allgaier, Josh Bilicki, Regan Smith, Ben Kennedy, and Garrett Smithley.
Red flag with 8 to go. Caution is now out.
Nice to see some international talent in the field in this race. There’s an Australian (James Davison), a Belgian (Anthony Kumpen), a Londoner (Stephen Young), and a driver from Monterrey, Mexico (Enrique Baca).
Restarting with 5 to go.
Uncle Brenny takes a trip through the grass.
The 3 (Scott Lagasse Jr) is in the grass as we continue under green.
White flag waves with Sam looking smooth out front so far.
Sam wins! Congrats to Sam’s crew chief Greg Irwin.
Matt Tifft says he’s from an hour away from the track, so he’s happy to have done so well so close to home.
Congrats to the rest of the top 10:
- Daniel Hemric
- Matt Tifft
- James Davison
- Andy Lally
- Elliott Sadler
- Brendan Gaughan
- Brennan Poole
- Justin Marks
- Dakoda Armstrong
Nice race. Quite enjoyable.
James Davison says this is where he wants to be racing in the future so he’s pleased but not satisfied. He was having trouble with second gear. He’s also raced Indy car and Indy Lights.
Andy Lally says stock car racing on a road course is his favorite kind of racing.
