Beautiful sunny day at Sonoma. The racr has been a bit more interesting than usual, though I only caught parts of stage one on the radio as well as stage two. Once we got home and started watching the television broadcast there have been some points of interest. I’ll miss Mike Joy, DW and Jeff Gordon the rest of the season and will really look forward to the Daytona 500 and the return of the top booth team. Next week begins the NBC debacle. I will try to gain some optimism about it – by next weekend, but I’m dreading it at the moment.
Congrats to Jimmie Johnson on his first stage win.
As the laps wind down – three to go now – KHarv is in fuel conservation mode. So after a bit of action throughout the race now its slowed down to a bit of ho-hum as everyone tries to make it on fuel and the field is kinda strung out.
There’s been far too many helmet cam shots in this race. At one point the
Crash on the final lap with Kasey Kahne though we continued to just look at KHarv cruising around to the finish.
The caution flag came out just before the finish line.
Kasey hit the wall hard. DW says it pushed the wall back. He hit concrete barriers – no SAFER wall in that section. They just showed the buckled barrier. Kasey seemed to limp to the ambulance.
Congrats to Clint Bowyer on his second place finish in the 14 Stewart-Haas car.
Nice that they’re talking to Dale Jr for the final time as a full-time driver on the FOX broadcast.
Can someone teach Clare B Lang to stop ‘photo-bombing’ the tv interviews? It’s so terribly unprofessional.
It seems that Truex’s cars haven’t been as consistently strong since the addition of the second team. They usually say there’s a transition period when a team is added. I guess this is their transition. His numerous stage wins show that he has strong cars, but stuff keeps happening, like the engine issues today.
Nice video montage at the end of the broadcast. I look forward to the return of the FOX team and hope they’ll be back bigger and better (and without the dead weight.)
