Happy Father’s Day to those with children, with fathers and those who fulfil that function. Congratulations to William Byron on winning the Camping World Truck Series race, his third win of his rookie season. Congrats to John Hunter Nemechek on his first NASCAR Camping Series Truck Race pole.
Another blue sky day in Iowa as the Xfinity Series drivers make a Sunday stand since the Sprint Cup drivers have the week off.
Erik Jones, who had the pole, has left the track during the caution on lap 96 of 250 due to a fuel pick up issues. The caution came of for a blown tire by Ryan Preece.
Sam Hornish Jr. is in the field today. Welcome back “Sideways Sam”.
Caution is out for the third time for Derrick Cope hitting the wall after cutting down a tire on lap 124 of 250.
Caution on lap 135 of 250 for Blake Koch spinning through the outfield. Looks like Uncle Brennie (Brendan Gaughan) got into his left rear.
The skies at the track in Newton, Iowa are absolutely gorgeous. As the sunset during yesterday’s truck series race it was picture perfect. Erik Jones’ pit crew is now crewing for Sam Hornish Jr. Daniel Suarez’s crew had been getting him off pit road earlier, putting him in the lead, then Sam would drive back to first. So it looks like they’ve decided to give Sam the ‘A team’ pit crew.
Caution with 58 laps to go for J.J. Yeley hitting the wall. He squeezed Drew Herring against the wall leaving him nowhere to go and J.J. went around on the contact.
Sam Hornish had an almost six second lead at the time.
According to the MRN guys its warmer in Iowa than it is here in the Atlanta metro area. They said the temperature has pushed to around 90 there. It’s just 81 degrees here. Highly unusual for mid-June in Georgia.
I’m curious as to why the MRN broadcasts are about two laps (on this track) behind the action on television. I prefer listening to the radio braodcast – no Michael Waltrip and no Larry McReynolds – so a much more enjoyable listening experience, but the race call is behind the action. I’m guessing they’re whoopsie delay is longer than the tv whoopsie delay – you know the delay in case someone uses profanity.
Drew Herring brings out the caution with 33 laps to go as the 28 car of Dakoda Armstrong gets into the back-end of Drew sending him spinning. Seems like Drew’s beard is drawing more than small animals, it seems to be drawing bad luck also. He might want to think about losing the unfortunate facial hair.
Sam Hornish wins!!!! Ty Dillon finishes second and Daniel Suarez finishes fourth.
Sam is overwhelmed having his wife and kids here on Father’s Day and winning the race. He said he hopes Matt is doing well. Sounds like he’s subbing for Kenseth. Hmmm, I wonder what’s wrong with Kenseth, but I don’t want to know badly enough to listen to Adam Alexander, Larry McReynolds, and Michael Waltrip babble ignorantly.
