Beautiful day in Sonoma. Carl Edwards will lead the field to the green flag.
Clint Bowyer brings out the first caution on lap 6 of 110. He lost power and when he tried to get the car restarted smoke began to pour into the cockpit. “Drunk Daddy” bailed out unharmed, though disgusted with the early end to his day.
Caution on lap 45 of 110 for debris.
Caution with 24 to go for debris.
AJ Allmendinger’s 47 team had an uncontrolled tire on pit road, so he has to do a pass-thru penalty from the lead. Tony Stewart is now the leader.
Caution with 18 to go for Michael McDowell off the racetrack, but too close for comfort. Michael was having some issue and got off the track to get oout of the way of the lead lap cars, but it wasn’t far enough away from the oncoming traffic to avoid the caution flag. He apparently had a broken axle and they tried to fix it and send him out and it didn’t work out. He wasn’t safely off the track since that’s apparently the fastest part of the track and if anything had gone wrong he would’ve been plowed into.
SMOKE WINS!!!! Denny passes Smoke on the final lap. Smoke comes back in the last turn and put a great move at the end of the race to pass Hamlin for the win!
Most of the race was boring, but the final 25 laps with Smoke in the lead became exciting.
The Stewart-Haas Racing teams are all up on the wall to congratulate Smoke. Congrats to Martin Truex Jr on his third place finish – though I hoped to see him battling for the win with Smoke at the end. Martin is disappointed in his finish.
This is the final FOX Sports NASCAR broadcast of the season. I’ll miss Mike Joy, DW, Jeff Gordon, Vince Welch, Jeff Hammond, Wacky Wally Dallenbach and Andy Petree – the talent of NASCAR broadcasting. I hope we’ll see more Petree next season – especially in the booth. Already looking forward to February for the return of the class of the field of broadcasting (and will accept the rest of the crew for a chance to get to see the best).
