2015 NASCAR Xfinity Series Race One Daytona

Congratulations to Tyler Reddick on his first Truck Series win last night. Heavy clouds in Daytona promise rain though it is warmer than it has been the past few days.

The rain came during Xfinity qualifying, but passed relatively quickly.

KHarv is in the booth doing color. He’s quite good. It is so refreshing to hear someone who sounds excited about the race, but isn’t yelling and losing their minds intermittently. He sounded as though he was watching the same race I was watching. He was enthusiastic, informative, and generally delightful. He brought insight and fun without the foolishness. He explained what needed explaining and just made the broadcast worth listening to. Now, if we could have him on a weekly basis and replace Adam Alexander and Michael Waltrip with people as talented as Kevin Harvick the Xfinity broadcasts would drastically improve. Adam Alexander and Michael make the broadcast feel amateurish. Those guys in the LA studio add to the clown show with their rabid attempts at humor. NASCAR wants to be taken seriously but they’re attached to broadcaster ‘partners’ who are more interested in the show of show business as opposed to sports broadcasting.

Two big wrecks during the Xfinity series. Until 91 laps to go the field were riding around without issue. As I predicted the combination of Kutey Kyle Larson pushing Daniel Suarez went wrong and resulted in an eleven car wreck that included Regan Smith’s car flipping over.

Later with less than 10 to go the field was red-flagged when Erik Jones went sideways across the field and once again eleven cars were involved. Kyle Busch went into the inside wall and was taken away in an ambulance with his right leg stabilized.

Aric Almirola pushed Kutey Kyle Larson hard and they went spinning into the grass. NASCAR didn’t throw the caution and let them race back to the checkered flag.

Ryan Reed passed Brad Keselowski to win the race! This is Ryan’s first win and Roush-Fenway Racing’s first win at Daytona in this series.

Chris Buescher finishes second after giving his teammate a strong push that sent him past Brad Keselowski.

Ty Dillon finished third.

Kyle went directly to the hospital instead of the in-field care center. It seems we’re on the verge of being Busch-less at the Daytona 500.

I’ve not yet mentioned how happy I am to see Wacky Wally Dallenbach on the FOX desk with Hammond and John Roberts. He was the only person from the TNT broadcast I would miss at the end of their run.
