So the question I tend to ask at this point of the season is whom does Jay Mohr have dirt on in NASCAR that he keeps getting the hosting gig for the ceremony? He has been awful in the past and the tradition continued this year. Typically there has been a sort of pre-game show with red carpet stuff and interviews. Didn’t see anything like that this year.
I fell asleep before the end. That pretty much sums up the majority of the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup season for me. I’ve fallen asleep on more races and events this season than I have in the entire time I’ve been watching NASCAR.
The ceremony came off as cheap. It had a really tacky feel.
There were a couple of amusing moments – though most weren’t memorable apparently. I’m writing about this a month after the ceremony and I can’t remember the two or three things that made me smile. They came from drivers. I believe Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin each said something amusing. Jay Mohr as usual didn’t. Having the drivers up two-by-two was like not having them on at all. Keelan was cute as usual and gave me a smile.
I typically look forward to the show – in spite of Jay Mohr – but the show, like the Chase, and the season has left me wondering if my love of NASCAR is fading, or have they simply ‘New & Improved’ the sport away from the things that attracted me to it and made me fall in love with it.
As the season has dragged on I have found myself questioning if I will attend a race next year and if I will continue to watch. I believe I will watch. I believe in second chances and I don’t give up things I love easily. I was passionate about NASCAR. I want to regain that passion. I just hope the 2015 season will offer me the opportunity to re-ignite my NASCAR affair.
