2013 NASCAR Sprint Unlimited at Daytona

Sprint UnlimitedOn a cool and windy night the drivers head to the drivers’ meeting to prepare for the race formerly known as the Bud Shootout.

Jimmie Johnson is doing a half-marathon (13 miles) tomorrow to raise money for his charity – The Jimmie Johnson Foundation.

SpeedTV has the hokeyest voice-over on lots of stuff with the Sprint Unlimited. It’s like the ‘wacky’ TMZ voice-over guy doing NASCAR voice over. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TACKY!!! It is starting to feel like the people in charge of NASCAR programming on SpeedTV feel the same disdain about NASCAR as the anchors on ESPN. SpeedTV is sucking the fun out of NASCAR and turning it into a clown show. I guess the television folks are trying to get rid of the audience and then blame the decrease in viewers for their reason to cut/drop programming. So sad.

Wow it’s 8:28pm and the pace car has just turned off the lights and I’m already TIRED OF MICHAEL WALTRIP!!! How long was his contract????? One too many Waltrips. It’s been such a pleasure to hear DW’s voice after such a long time, but the usual suspects Larry McReynolds & Michael Waltrip are already giving me pains in my BUTT!!

It’s such a relief to see the cars on the track doing more than testing!!!

Big wreck!!! Smoke and Kenseth are battling early for the lead. Oops!!! Smoke comes down across Ambrose’s hood, catches the car which sends Ambrose high toward Jimmie Johnson who hits the brakes, Hamlin hits him from behind and the pile up is underway. In the end seven of the 19 competitors are collected including Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch and Kurt Busch.

In the end Smoke wins segment one, Harvick wins segment two and the Sprint Unlimited.

Its good to have NASCAR back on television, though I wish they would do an overhaul and get rid of Michael Waltrip on the desk. Keselowski brought nothing to the party. Suddenly we had too many ‘driver experts’ and only one with any personality (DW).

Next Race: Duel at Daytona

GO 48!!!!
