2010 Spring Richmond Saturday

You know I’d not really paid attention to how often hendrickcarsonline.com has been on Mark Martin’s car this season.  The season is early, but it’s been on the car a few times.  I wonder if Mr H is saving the big sponsorship bucks for Kasey, or whoever will drive it next year, or if he’s just having trouble finding enough sponsorship with Martin driving or if, Rick Hendrick the Chevy dealership owner is suffering during the tight economy.

And I have to say, while sitting here watching Sprint Cup Practice from yesterday, Clint Bowyer’s butt has POWER!!!  A line from Honkytonk Badonkadonk comes to mind (paraphrased) I hate to see him go, but Lord to watch him leave….whoo!  That boy is FINE!  It’s funny because my driver, Jimmie Johnson, is a good-looking man.  I have a friend who is almost willing to give Chani a fight for him (jokingly).  But Jimmie does nothing for me.  If Clint is walking toward the camera, I think, he’s a handsome guy, but he does nothing for me.  Then he turns his back and I get stupid.

Yesterday was Michael Curtis Waltrip’s birthday.  His big brother DW said Happy Birthday on the air.  It was also Elliott Sadler’s birthday.  Wyatt is there for his first race weekend.  Elliott is such a proud papa.

DW likes to say that short track racing is the best racing.  And the announcers get nutso about night racing.  In my opinion, all night races are like tonight’s Richmond race -BOOOOORRRRRINNNGGG.  I noticed Friday the NASCAR radio folks were well on their way to excusing the boringnesss of the race.  They were bouncing around the notion that there were so many lead changes at Talladega, maybe fans would think Richmond was boring if there aren’t as many.  They decided overall that NASCAR fans were smart enough to know there wouldn’t be anywhere near as many lead changes and they would be okay with that.  And maybe the crowd that calls SIRIUS NASCAR radio often will be happy with tonight’s race.  I, on the otherhand, am thoroughly bored with the race.  We’re currently on lap 225 of 400 and unless something really exciting happens in the near future, this will be the most boring race of the year.  Its a short track race, so I expect a boring race.  They like to hype it as being like a speedway, and I would agree it is like a speedway – and those cars are like the Chevy Impalas, Ford Fusions and Toyota Camrys sold at dealerships – except they’re not – and its not.  Now my deal with most night races is also a mystery.  For some reason I find the night races boring overall.  There are a couple I enjoy, but most are like short track races; I endure them and hope for something interesting.  The interesting thing is that I will find night races at a track more boring than day races at the same track.

So Wyatt Sadler did spend a few weeks in the hospital since birth.  That makes me even happier that he’s home and at his first race.

Well there was a little action at the end of the race, but not enough to save that stink pot.

The good news is that a truck race is scheduled for tomorrow.  I hope that will provide some racing fun!

  1. yes Clint’s butt has the power to move the world, mighty fine, mighty fine. I think that Mr. H is having problems retaining sponsorship for the 5 with Mark “get to the hospital on time” Martin. He’s too old and so what if he’s raced a million years he’s not a winner. In a stable of champions who wants to be the prize goat. Ask Jr. just my 2 pence.
