2010 Spring Talladega Sunday

It’s Talladega Sunday and mostly sunny here in Atlanta and the same in Talladega. Hooray! I’m happy to say the storms weren’t nearly as damaging as predicted. The only issue I experienced from the storms was a loss of internet connectivity. If that’s the worst that that particular storm system brought – it was a good day.

Kenny Wallace said what I’ve been saying. We’re both worried about Richard Childress. Shell/Pennzoil has lost another major sponsorship. Kenny said they have lost eight major sponsorships including Shell/Pennzoil, Holiday Inn, and Jack Daniels. Hermie said the conversation about moving Shell/Pennzoil started last year when there were issues with Happy Harvick and disgruntled employees and the race results weren’t great.

Of course, we have to revisit the 1987 Bobby Allison crash and the 2009 Carl Edwards-Brad Keselowski crash as we prepare for today’s race. There will be a competition caution at lap 20 to take a look at the tires.

Elliott Sadler said Amanda and Baby Wyatt are back at home. That leaves me to wonder what happened. I remember after he was born he was in the hospital for a while. I hope it was nothing serious. I found this tweet about Wyatt – not very informative. Oh well, good that Wyatt is at home.

Men and their phones and apps. Watching Chris Myers with the Samsung Moment gives me way too much insight into him and his apps. 🙂 Oooh it’s time for the weather bimbo – Rick Dickert – Seriously, an unfortunate name. A Slice of Pizzi – the first few were funny. They have been getting less and less funny. How about a monthly Pizzi? Its rare that someone can manage to be funny on a weekly basis on Fox. I thought it was just Jimmy Kimmel, Frank Caliendo, and Rutlege Wood – of course they’re not funny on a weekly basis which is a different store – but maybe its the grind of a weekly appearance and trying to find something original and funny, get it shot and edited, within that time frame. Maybe. Maybe its just my sense of humor is completely opposite of the target audience (I doubt it, but maybe). Whatever!

Junior shaved and Krista asked him about it and he was, seemingly, not amused. He went on to talk about the race. He’s either in a bad headspace, or he just doesn’t like Krista and the comment about his Mom liking this look better than his beard, pissed him off.

There was an interesting clip on tv yesterday in which Jimmie and Jeff were having an on-track incident a few years ago and Mr. Hendrick comes on the radio and says once upon a time I had three cars on the track, two in the front and all three on the lead lap and the two in the front took each other out. The Monday morning meeting was a hellacious one. I love that man. Mr. H is okay with the current Big Daddy vs Jimmie feud – as long as they’re not wrecking.

DW says Happy has to work real hard to stay with Richard Childress and to find sponsors.

So Happy won Talladega. Okay. I was happy for DeLana. Jimmie wrecked out of the race. Big Daddy says Jimmie is trying his patience – that it takes a lot to get him angry and he is PISSED. Interesting. BooBoo took the blame for their finish because he didn’t choose the fastest lane at the end. Kasey got caught up in a couple of wrecks. There wasn’t really “A Big One”. There was a few wreck, but not the 15-20 car carnage we usually see. Now they’re getting ready for the Nationwide race which was postponed from yesterday.

Ricky Stenhouse just hit Carl and caused him to spin and a big wreck. They just showed video during the wreck inside the car with Carl and he had his hands up to his chest (and off the steering wheel). They were saying that he knew that the car was going to get hit so he took his hands off to keep from breaking a finger or something. It was amazing to watch the steering wheel keep snapping around while he was doing that. Clint was involved in it, along with Leffler and others. I have to believe that John Wes Townley is laughing his butt off. They took him out of the car and put Clint Bower in because he was wrecking too much and I don’t think there’s been a race yet where Clint hasn’t wrecked. Buescher, Leffler, Sorenson, Mike Wallace, Michael Annett, and Edwards were involved in this wreck. Mike Wallace was the first to hit Carl as he spun. Mike’s car was on fire for a while afterward. Jamie Mc is leading the race, but he has a headache and is taking some Ibuprofen on the first caution. Front Row Joe won the race off pit road. Reed Sorenson has been released from the infield care center. Carl is back on the track, but they’re going to hold him for a lap because he drove the wrong way down pit road after the accident. It appears everybody is out of the infield care center and fine.

In the end that was just the first wreck of the race. The race ended on a flaming, flying crash. Bradley K. was in the lead when the mess happened; so he got his first Talladega win in the Nationwide Series.
